Stereotype

This is a picture of a person that saved countless of lives being massacred during the infamous Nanking Massacre - John Rabe.

He is a German that was on a missionary trip in Nanking, where then Nanking was fell to the hands of imperial Japan. Frustrated by the slow advancement and heavy casualty of soldiers, the imperial japan army therefore has the infamous 'clean up' or 'mopping up' operation that lead to the round up and slaughter of hundreds of thousands civilian lives.

Many foreigners fled the city before its demise, but John Rabe and other 26 foreigners decide to stay and establish the safe zone in Nanking, he being elect the leader of the safe zone due to his membership in the Nazi Party. That time considering where both imperial Japan and Nazi Germany were allies, imperial Japanese Army did not lay a hand on the safe zone, and leads to save thousands of live from brutality. John Rabe even sent a letter personally to Hitler wishing that using his influence as the Fuhrer so that imperial Japan army would stop the brutality.

Now here's a food for thought, usually we stereotype people using what kind of organisation that he/her is affiliated with, without really considering the main character of a person. The power of conformity and the sense of own insecurity lead us to usually judge a person that he/her possibly be, and not the person's character himself. When can human truly understand each other, without judging by the cover of the book?

Black or White or Grey?

Here's one of those posts that I will ramble about something that is true to my psychology confusing nature at first, but nevertheless satisfying when you actually think about it.

Was debating about is there such thing as definite right or wrong in the world. To put it simpler, black or white. One says that everything is in black or white, being in grey area is just being indecisive that will ultimately lead to the decision of taking 1 of those 2 sides. There is definite things that are right and that are wrong.

I beg to differ however, . Think about it, black and white is just something that us, human define for ourselves. True that there is relative properties of everything out there (old/new, black/white, slow/fast, etc)  Your black could be someone's else white, his yin might be her yang and their right is our wrong. But, it is all defined by us, and not exactly true to the nature of this world. We all live in shades of grey, and there is no such thing as definite right or wrong.

I will leave you with this totally unrelated quote, hope it might be thought provoking.

I am Andrew Ryan and I am here to ask you a question:
Is a man not entitled to the sweat of his brow?

No, says the man in Washington; it belongs to the poor.
No, says the man in the Vatican; it belongs to God.
No, says the man in Moscow; it belongs to everyone.

No, I say, it belongs to us

You Can Bring Ranma 1/2 back!

I am pretty sure that even for the most anti-anime fans will know this legendary series - Ranma 1/2 by Rumiko Takahashi. For the uninitiated, this is an anime that begins nearly 22 years ago (As old as I am) that tells of a martial artist's bizzare life. The twist? He can change gender if cold water is splashed on him. XD

This anime has the strongest points being that it manages to weave comedy, story, drama seemlessly together. Even though the anime was like 2 decades ago, it is STIll absolutely entertaining to watch every time people try to manipulate him by using his curse. Alas, the anime came to an abrupt end even when the manga wasn't actually done with it, leaving fans disappointed and yearning for more.

So... I came across a new itchy preview of the OVA of Ranma, which was released as a 1 special only  in 2008. And my god, it brings so much nostalgic value and much needed visual upgrade to Ranma 1/2, which is quite remarkable to a series that is 20 years old. While I actually detest most of remakes of original stuff cause mostly it ruins stuff up, but this is actually a good news. What is the good news? They are planning to release the remaining content of Ranma manga in anime form, provided enough people wants it :)

This is where, YOU, my readers have the chance to bring this legendary series back by signing up the petition and join my facebook group.  The details as follow:

Happy Chinese Roar Year!

Yes! Chinese New Year is upon us again! A reason to smile, be happy, excuse to get fat and reunite with your friends and loved ones. Oh, and excuse to post this too:-

For me, Chinese New Year is always associated with a very old Chinese traditional philosophy : " Out with the old. in with the new." This includes my mom's insistence of me getting rid of any old and torn clothes  that I loved so much T_T Throwing anything away that is not needed (A mini spring cleaning) and buying new stuff  such as bowls and cutlery will be replacing the old ones temporarily ( symbol of prosperity of the new year).

However, i guess even the most recluse type of people knows that the last year was hit pretty hard by recession and shit like that. It makes this year new year a whole less jolly, and I believe that instead of buying new stuff, it is time for us to appreciate what we have.

Example: I always wanted a new guitar since the old one is making some weird noises, but i realized that it hold so much nostalgic value for me. So i went to have it repaired, polished, fix new strings, and it is good as ever. Also, my laptop screen went bust recently and the repair fee is expensive considering i can chip in other few hundred more to get a completely new and powerful one. But i felt very sayang for it, since it was the first laptop i actually handpicked and chosen out of so many, that i decided to get it fixed. Needless to say, I still loved it as ever :D

So, do you have something to appreciate this new year?
